The outstanding band from this year’s workshops will be given the opportunity to play on the blues stage at Wangaratta this year. (Details to be advised in October).

The Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society has been nurturing blues and its artists for around 20 years, one of the projects being the “MBAS Youth in Blues” Project. This is held on a yearly basis and has been a huge success, this year there are many young budding musicians in the project, and will all be contesting for the ultimate prize of playing in the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, in the blues marquee in 2009, the overall winner will be announced in September, just in time to get ready to perform at Wangaratta.  MBAS will fund the road trip for the new band to this festival, the MBAS Youth in Blues Project was a huge success last year with the youth band receiving a standing ovation.

Inspiration

"For the past twenty years, the city of Wangaratta has played a critical role in the development of jazz in this country. Its annual Festival has helped nurture a generation of talented musicians, and provided a forum for experimentation; and in doing so has challenged audiences to expand their musical horizons. For those of us who have followed the Festival from its infancy, it’s been an incredible journey. I know I speak for many in wishing Wangaratta Jazz every success for its next twenty years."  Des Cowley, Rythms Magazine 2009
